Bad Blogger, Part 2
November 29th, 2011

Remember when I said I was a bad blogger....? I was right! Blogging gets left to the wayside after making new work, filling orders, going to craft shows, photographing the new work, updating the online store (which is now up to date!) and sleeping. But now that the shows are slowing down, I should be able to be a better blogger. No promises, but I will certainly try!!

To get a little caught up- I did a show in W. Springfield a couple weeks ago and last weekend was the Open House. Both were good events and I have 2 more shows left. One is actually tomorrow night and the other next week. Between these events I still have some custom orders to complete and other orders to fill. So for now, I will be off. I need to make 20 or so horses tonight and have to finish up some vases. I do also have to make a run to buy more clay this week as I am just about out!

The work continues...but if you want to stay a little more current I would suggest visiting the LEP Facebook page so you can be notified every time a new piece is listed on Etsy and for some cool contests and discounts.

Enjoy your evening!

Whirlwind Weekend!

November 6th, 2011

I would like to thank everyone who came out to both Francis Farm and Arajuo's this weekend! A lot of new work found new homes and loving families all to make room in the studio for new items.

Boths shows this weekend had great turnouts and were a great success. The next show is in a couple of weeks in Springfield. I have a lot of work to make this week to re-stock. It looks like sponge holders, mugs, and bowls on the list for tomorrow.

Hidden Treasure

October 27th, 2011

I was reorganizing and came across this wiggle wire I had "lost" a few years ago without ever having used it. It's pretty cool- making wiggly carved lines in whatever you cut into. These are just a couple of the bowls I tried it on and I am excited about the possibilities. Look for more to come soon. Next week there will be a fury of glazing going on to get ready for a double shot weekend of craft fairs.

Stay tuned!

New Work

October 13th, 2011

I've been busy making lots of new items, preparing for the fall show season. The studio is getting a little crowded right now as I am waiting for the pieces to dry before firing. Both kilns are going to be working overtime in the next few weeks to get everyone finished.

Yay Summer!

September 25th, 2011

Ok, I know it's officially fall, but yay for warmer weather- that means that I can pleasantly do some raku firings at night while it is nice out and get some really awesome images of the firing process.

The peak temperature in the kiln reaches over 1800 degrees F and the pieces are quite hot when removed from the kiln. The glowing orange pieces contrast very well in the dark of the night.

Below are some of the images from the firing the other night. The zebra is one of my favorites along with the horses with copper wire melted into the glaze. Stay tuned for more work this week.

It's Official!

September 21st, 2011

I am a bad blogger. I admit it. But, I will do my best to be better at posting updates and other images on a more frequent basis.

This week is filled with more raku firings. A few horses were done today with a good selection of colors. Tomorrow I plan to do a whole herd of animals, so stay tuned for the latest additions!

Raku No. 2

September 8th, 2011

The rain finally subsided early this afternoon and I was able to get in more firings to finish the herd of horses (18 in all) and elephants (12) that got interrupted by the rain on Tuesday. Both the horses and the elephants came out quite well! I was very with the crackle patterns on the elephants.

Now, I need to get back to work and begin making some giraffes and zebras.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend!

Rainy Raku

September 6th, 2011

I decided to ignore the weather forecast and try and get in some raku firings today. Alas, after the first firing began, the rain started at a slight drizzle. I decided to continue on as everything was already set up and the kiln going.

The rain doesn't effect the actual pieces as much as it is not good for the kiln and it makes it very difficult to work with fire while water is around everwhere. The newspaper shreds had to be kept in a container and only opened right before going into the cans, and everything had to move much faster so it all didn't get wet or washed away!

Despite the heavier rain that came towards the end of the second firing, I was able to get 2 good firings and a good sampling of work in. Pictures from the firing can all be seen on facebook.
